Apple Pie Recipe
What You’ll Need:
- Pastry for double-crust pie (9 inches)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (about 6 medium)
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F. On a lightly floured surface, roll one half of dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in. pie plate. Trim even with rim. In a large bowl, combine sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt. Add apples; toss to coat. Pour into crust; dot with butter. Roll remaining dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle. Place over filling. Trim, seal and flute edge. Cut slits in top. Beat egg white until foamy; brush over crust. Sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake 45-50 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cover edge loosely with foil during the last 15 minutes if needed to prevent overbrowning. Cool on a wire rack.
