  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 recipe of your favorite pie dough

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and cornstarch. Toss well to combine.
  3. Roll out your pie dough and line a deep dish pie plate with it. Trim the edges to have a slight overhang. Fill the crust with the apple mixture, dot with butter.
  4. Roll out the remaining dough and cut into desired shapes for the top of the pie. Arrange shapes over the apple mixture to cover, you can also crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
  5. Bake the pie for 20 minutes, reduce oven temperature to 350°F and continue baking for an additional 40-50 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the filling is tender.
