  1. Clean and wash the moong dal and oats. Keep them soaked for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker. Add in the cumin seeds and mustard seeds.

  4. Sauté the ginger and garlic until the raw smell disappears.
  5. Add in the chopped onions and green chillies. Sauté till the onions turn translucent.

  7. Add in the turmeric powder and red chilli powder (if using). Mix well.
  8. Drain the water from the soaked moong dal and oats. Add them to the pressure cooker.
  9. Add in the water and salt to taste. Mix well.
  10. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal and oats are cooked through and soft.
  11. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
