French Apple Pie

For the crust, you’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3-4 tbsp. ice water

For the filling, you’ll need:

  • 5 large, tart apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

To make the crust, combine the flour and salt in a food processor. Add the cubed butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Slowly pour in the ice water, pulsing until the dough comes together. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least half an hour.

Preheat the oven to 375°F. In a large skillet, melt the butter and cook the apples for about 10 minutes, until they’re slightly softened. Mix in the sugars and cinnamon, stirring occasionally, for another 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Roll out the pie crust and place it into a 9-inch pie dish. Pour in the cooled apple mixture. Using the remaining pie crust dough, cut it into strips and place over the top of the pie in a lattice pattern. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

You’ll need:

  • 1 (5-6 lb.) bone-in ham
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

In a large crock pot, place the ham and sprinkle the brown sugar over the top. Pour in the apple juice and chicken broth. In a small bowl, whisk together the mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, and cinnamon. Pour the mixture over the ham. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours.

Remove the ham from the crock pot and let it rest for about 10 minutes. In a separate saucepan, pour in the remaining liquid from the crock pot and heat over medium-high heat until it reduces by half. This will turn into a delicious glaze for your ham.
