  • 2 1/2 pounds of apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • 1 tbsp. granulated sugar, for topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine the sliced apples, flour, cornstarch, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Mix well and let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate. Dot with the butter.
  4. Roll out the pie dough and place it over the apples. Fold the edges under and crimp to seal.
  5. Brush the top of the dough with the beaten egg white and sprinkle with the remaining tablespoon of granulated sugar.
  6. Cut a few slits in the top of the dough to vent steam.
