Upma Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup semolina (suji)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 6-7 curry leaves
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
Instructions:
- In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start spluttering, add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
- Add onion and green chili and saute until onion turns translucent.
- Add tomato and saute until it turns soft and mushy.
- Then add turmeric powder and mix well.
- Add semolina and roast it until it turns light brown and gives a nutty aroma.
- Add salt and water and mix well. Cover the pan and let it cook on medium flame for 2 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the semolina is cooked.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney or pickle.
